Project Description
Prayer for the rhino
Natural incense sculpture – 20 x 10 x 8 cm
Madras 2005
The Incense sculptures by Davide Grazioli are born at the peak of a long period of work on the theme of the environmental crisis.
The 33 skull-shaped sculptures that the artist created in Tamil Nadu in 2007 are the result of the intention not to use toxic materials or materials with a strong environmental impact for artistic purposes, but to move instead towards organic materials.
The choice of organic incense goes precisely in the direction of combining the sacred, even dramatic, message of death and rebirth with the metaphor of possession and consumption that characterizes our days.
Each sculpture burns completely for many hours, leaving some golden teeth in the ashes.
